The men’s and women’s fusion wear brand had first launched in Chicago in the U.S. in November, 2021 and its new Indian website marks its official entry into the Indian market.
“Khaddar needs no introduction,” said Haasan at a virtual press conference to launch his brand’s Indian website, The Hindu reported. “It’s woven into the fabric of the nation. We cling on to the thread and climb. We are proud to launch our business on Republic Day.”
The brand’s garments are designed by Amritha Ram and its maiden collection ‘Nunool’ features a wide range of trench coats, jackets, skirts, and dresses for the winter season. With a colour palette of neutral tones and pops of blue and pink, the garments are designed to be layered for versatility.
The collection was manufactured using organic dyes which produce zero chemical waste and zero carbon with hand dyeing techniques. The brand is also designed to be sustainable and support the welfare of its weavers, according to Haasan.
“Whenever we spoke of exporting khaddar to the West, the first question asked was ‘Who would want to wear an Indian politician’s costume?’ It’s not a politician’s costume: it is a historic thread that connects people like freedom fighters and the free Indians of today,” said Haasan.
